Waffles for World Vision
Event for Sigma Phi Lambda intended to raise money for our sororities philanthropy World Vision
Waffles for World Vision consisted of a variety of tasks; I helped to restock water, waffle supplies and other inventory if we ran low during the benefit event. I also assisted with bingo by choosing the ball sand announcing over microphone which numbers were drawn. Lastly, I helped to cook waffles to serve to guests.
I learned how important it is to have volunteers who are invested in your event. Since this was a philanthopic event, I noticed how passionate all of the volunteers were for the cause which resulted in them caring more about their work as a volunteer.
The purpose of this event is to raise money for World Vision. World Vision is Sigma Phi Lambda's philanthropy who's mission is to "international partnership of Christians whose mission is to follow our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in working with the poor and oppressed to promote human transformation, seek justice, and bear witness to the good news of the Kingdom of God."
Transformational Teaching and Learning Conference
1st Annual Event by The Center for Teaching Excellence
At the first annual Transformational Teaching and Learning Conference I helped to register guests for the event by asking guests for their UIN and name; point guests in correct direction to breakout session. I assisted guests who did not pre-register for the conference by creating nametags and assistance for them to sign in. Lastly, I monitored the raffle tickets to make sure everyone understood what to do.
I learned how important it is to be organized. There was a volunteer orientation before the event, which out of all of my events was the only one to have that. I believe that the orientation not only prepared the volunteers but also those in attendance to have a better time!
The purpose of TTLC is to "promote and celebrate a culture of teaching excellence and innovation at Texas A&M University."
Dancing for the Health of it All
At Dancing for The Health of It All, we sold raffle tickets to guests by walking around with boxes that held the money and tickets.I greeted guests at the Hildebrand Equine Center and directed them toward the venue room. The event was decorated with large round tables and a lot of table decor; we assisted with break down and clean up after the event.
I learned how you need to have an event planner who knows ALL details. This event was a little crazy due to not one certain person being in charge and I believe it set the tone for the entire event of the confusion through staff and volunteers.
The purpose of Dancing for the Health of It is to bring together “celebrity” dancers from across our community to compete for bragging rights and raise funds for the clinic. The money raised from the event goes to support health in the community for those who cannot afford insurance.
